5. Where do I find online resources?
The library maintains 2 sites: For those who work at a Horizon site & use a network desktop computer, our primary resources are found on our Skyline page.If you work at an offsite location and use a Horizon laptop, use our website, it has our primary resources, subject pages and more features.
6. I need some articles, how do I request them?
Get in touch with us at Library@HorizonNB.ca, call your area library, or drop by a physical library. Let us know what you want, and we'll get it for you. We do have forms for requesting specific articles, as well as literature search requests. You're welcome to fill them out, but we don't require them. To find the forms, in the top menu, click Contact Us, click the Forms tab. However, if you are submitting a request and need some guidance on what we need, the forms are a great way to organize your thoughts.
7. I have a search request/request for a literature review.
We receive hundreds of requests for literature searches each year to support patient care, education, research, and policies. Depending on the topic, type of project, or level of patient care, you may need just one good article or an in-depth evidence-based search to help find the answers you need. To guide you with your search request, you can fill in this form and save a copy. Click here. The form isn't necessary but is helpful! Email it to us at: Library@HorizonNB.ca One of our 3 librarians will respond to you with a literature search, on the subject you requested, within the time frame you requested and in the format you requested.
8. I want to borrow a book, how do I do that?
You can look for books held at any of the four locations, as well as ebooks, DVDs, and other items in our catalogue Use the List function to request books from any library ("Add to List" > "View List" > "Request these items") or drop by your nearest library, and staff will help you find the item you need. Once checked out, books are due in four weeks. You can contact us at Library@HorizonNB.ca if you need to renew. If we don't have the book in Horizon, we can see if another library in Canada has the book and is willing to lend it to us. Get in touch with us and we'll track it down for you.
9. Why don't you have "insert book/database/journal here?"
Most evidence-based resources like journals, databases, and textbooks cost us, and our budget doesn't allow us to buy everything we want to. If you request something, we do our best to add it to the collection, and if we can't buy it, we do our best to borrow from other libraries to get the information you need to you.
10. I have some old journals and textbooks. Do you accept donations?
We do, with some limitations. We won't accept anything that's more than 10 years old, or if it's a drug book, more than 5 years old. We also don't accept historical material or archival material. We're not set up to preserve items, but can certainly refer you to other organizations who may be interested. If you have some items you're looking to donate, give us a call and we can give some guidance.
